The lid is embellished with a large oval shaped and dome shaped jade plaque carved in relief with a Daoist immortal holding a branch of banana tree accompanied by an attendant holding lingzhi fungus, both in a rocky landscape planted with pine trees. This stand has four legs and is carved in low-relief with several auspicious symbols such as bats with flowered hanging vases as well as flower scrolls H: 46 cm § Bidders should be advised that importation regulations of several countries, including the US, prohibits the importation of ivory and that of coral, or any goods containing same. The base bears an apocryphal mark of Emperor Qian- long, a four-character one in kaishu script.: ‘ 乾隆年製 ’. H: 22,5 cm Note: Traditionally in China, glass was a relatively non-essential material, used for decorative and ritual purposes, and was not commonly accessible to Chinese people until the early twentieth centu- ry.
