56 A PARCEL GILT CHINESE EXPORT SILVER FOLIATED DISH BY DA XING / DAXING / 大興 OF CANTON CHINA, CANTON, QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY The central part with four medallions in reserve, the central one depicting a coiled dragon, that one surrounded by four, two depicting phoenix, two depicting flowers. The wing all covered with a woven pattern on which are eight medallions in reserve, alternatively squares and circles, adorned with deers, pheasants, cranes, qilings and other animal and flower species. Two medallions inscribed with 苑生 / Yue Chen. The below of the dish inscribed with two hallmarks, one unidentified, the other one, i.e. the maker’s mark, reading 大興 for DA XING of Canton. D: 25,7 cm Weight: 375 grams €3,000 - 6,000 NOTE: Compare with a large silver dish offered at Christie’s New York, 2014/10/16-20, lot 32, sold for USD12.500 BP inc. A PAIR OF PARTIALLY RETICULATED ‘DRAGON’ CANDLE HOLDERS BY WOSHING OF SHANGHAI CHINA, SHANGHAI, ACTIVE CIRCA 1870-1910 Both chiselled and partially reticulated with coiled dragons amidst clouds, their heads to the top of the bases, their coiled bodies encircling the candle holders up to the top. Marks to the outer part of the foot on both, one reading “WS” for Woshing, the other one in Chinese Mandarin (unidentified). H: 17,5 cm Total weight: 199 grams €1,000 - 2,000 NOTE: Woshing silver is excellently crafted and was made in most of the patterns popular in the export market, such as bam- boo, dragons, cranes, floral motifs.
