38 A- A BLANC DE CHINE / DEHUA MOULDED STANDING FIGURE OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS CHINA, FUJIAN, DEHUA, QING DYNASTY, 18TH TO 19TH CENTURY H: 35,7 cm Provenance (according to the seller): Bought in 1995/09/16 from Wan Feng, an antique shop located in Cat Street, Hollywood Road, Hong Kong, China. €1,500 - 3,000 NOTES: 1. The devotion to the Sacred Heart (also known as Sacratissimum Cor Iesu in Latin) is one of the most widely practised and well-known Catholic devotions, wherein the heart of Jesus is viewed as a symbol of “God’s boundless and passionate love for mankind”. This devotion is predominantly used in the Catholic Church. 2. Compare with a related Dehua figure of Jesus pre- served at The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), London, United Kingdom, under accession number C. 105-1963. B- A ‘LOTUS’ DOUCAI PORCELAIN TUREEN AND LID CHINA, QING DYNASTY, JIAQING MARK AND PERIOD The body applied with four porcelain hooks set with two metal handles, the outer adorned in underglaze cobalt blue enamels, iron red and gilt with lotus scrolls, the top of the lid with a frieze of five flying bats amidst clouds, the finial shaped as a double peach sprig, the below inscribed in cobalt blue with a six-character seal / zhuanshu mark of Emperor Jiaqing. The below also bears an old collector’s label. H: 13,7 cm €1,500 - 3,000 NOTE: The combination of five bats and a peach conveys the wish "five fortunes surround longevity" (wu fu peng shou, 五福捧寿 ). C- A SMALL APPLE GREEN CRACKLED GLAZED MEIPING VASE CHINA, QING DYNASTY, KANGXI PERIOD The miniature vase resting on a short unglazed ring foot, the piece all cov- ered with an apple-green-crackled-glaze.
