50 Señor Mauro Herlitzka was born in Trieste in 1871. He studied industrial and electrotechnical engineering in the Turin University, where he was a disciple of Gallileo Ferraris, and gradu- ated in 1894. He started his career in Milan at Pirelli and Co., later joined Siemens and Halske and then Allgemeine Elektrizitats Gessellschaft (A.E.G.), a company for which he visited he vis- ited Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1897. There, he created the Compañía Alemana Transatlántica de Electricidad (C.A.T.E.), became his Chief Direc- tor and set up definitely in Argentina in 1901. Amongst his numerous achievements: - he introduced in Argentina for the first time the Marconi wireless telegraphic system - he created numerous companies, mostly in the electricity field (the Compañía Anglo Argenti- na de Luz e Industrias Eléctrica, the Compañía Andina de Electricidad, the Compañía Electrica de Cordoba etc.) - he installed the telephone services in provinc- es as Entre Rios, San Juan, Mendoza, San Luis, Santa Fe etc. - he created and was his first president of the Corporación Sudamericana de Servicios Aereos - the first international flight from Argentina was done under his direction - he founded the Instituto de Cultura Itálica - he presided the Circulo Italian - he was nominated Comendador de la Corona d’Italia He passed away in 1960.
