A) Description of the blade: - Nagasa (length of the blade from the munemachi to the tip of the kissaki): 62 cm - Moto haba (width of the blade at the habachi): 3 cm - Saki haba (width of the blade at the yokote): 2 cm - Moto kasane (thickness of the blade at the munemachi): 0,8 cm - Saki kasane (thickness of the blade at the yokote): 0,4 cm - Kissaki nagasa (length of the kissaki from the yokote to the tip): 3 cm - Boshi yakitsune with hakikake (brushed aspect of the boshi) - Architecture of the blade shinogi zukuri - Mune iori mune (the back of the blade made of equal tails) - Hamon of choji midare type with a yakidashi at the beginning - Kissaki chu gissaki (medium size) - Nakago funagata (shaped as boat hull) with thin yasurime of sujikai type (bending to the right) and with a single menuki ana in its original shape ubu (non suriage) - Nakago jiri of kurijiri hasaru type, on both sides the omote and the uralenaga mei of the swordsmith (long and complete signature) B) Description of the mount (koshirae): The saya is fluted and lacquered roiroi (black). The tsuba is of moko gata type with mimi mekkin and is worked taka bori with a design of ryu worked mekkin with a menaki pattern (descending waves) of nami no takabori type and patinated shakdo. The nakago ana is patinated sentoku and has a kozuka hitsu with alike mimim. The koshirae is soroimono (entirely en suite) with the same ryu pattern in the waves, the same chiseling and the same patina. The tsuka is braided with a black ito in the moromineri maki style, which is classical. L (total of the katana together with its koshirae): 99 cm 2. Description of the wakizashi: The wakizashi is signed “Bushu Edo Saku Kore Namban Tetsu Motte Echizen Yasutsugu”. In 1624, during the Edio period, the silversmith Yasutsugu of the Musashi Province, hailing from the second generation did smith this blad with importeed steel. In the ranking by Fujishiro Matsuo, Yasutsugu is ranked ryowazamonu as a shinto josaku which corresponds to excellent . On the two rankings, Yasutsugu is the nidai of the school which means the direct heir of the founder of the smithy school. His common name was Ichinojo zhile his complete name is Yasutsugu. He was the first of the school to put an Aoimon on the nakago of the swords he was smithing. A) Description of the blade: - Nagasa (length of the blade from the munemachi to the tip of the kissaki): 38 cm - Moto haba (width of the blade at the habachi): 2,9 cm - Saki haba (width of the blade at the yokote): 2 cm - Moto kasane (thickness of the blade at the munemachi): 0,7 cm - Saki kasane (thickness of the blade at the yokote): 0,5 cm - Kissaki nagasa (length of the kissaki from the yokote to the tip): 4,3 cm - Boshi of yakisagaru type - Architecture of the blade shinogi zukuri - Mune iori mune (the back of the blade made of equal tails) - Hamon of hako type also called “horse teeth”, the hamon is with a yakidashi of yarikomi type - Kissaki chu gissaki no bi gkoro (above the average) - Nakago funagata (shaped as boat hull) of sujikai type, the omote face with an aoi mon and the faces without omote are with naga mei (signatures) - Nakago jiri of kenoyo type (V shaped) B) Description of the mount (koshirae): With a fluted saya black lacquered (roiroi) with a place for a kozuka. The koshirae is soroimo- no (entirely en suite), alike that of the katana, with, in addition, a kozuka which blade is signed, also with a ryu pattern, the habaki is of great quality and is all covered with a gold leaf with “Neko Gakki” (i.e. “cat claws”. € 15,000 - 20,000 378 .A PAIR OF SAMURAI SWORDS, DAISHO JAPAN 1. Description of the katana: The katana is “Shinto” according to Fujishiro Mat- suo. The Shinto period for the swords starts during the Keicho era (1596) and ends during the horeki era (1763). It is signed Echizen J Sagami (No) Fuji- wara Kunitsuna. In 1660, during the Kwambun era of the Edo period, Kunitsuna was a member of the swordsmith group Shimosaka in the province of Echizen. He is ranked Shinto Chusaku in the book by Matsuo Fujishiro. 379 380 382
