38 371 .A SAMURAI SWORD OF CHIISA KATANA TYPE Japan, Late Muromachi period (1337- 1573) A koto sword dating to the late Muroma- chi period, the blade is mumei (unsigned) and of shinogi zukuri shape with a ko gissaki (the kissaki with a small sized tip). 1. Description of the blade: - Nagasa (length of the blade from the munemachi to the tip of the kissaki): 59 cm - Moto haba (width of the blade at the habachi): 2,8 cm - Saki haba (width of the blade at the yokote): 1,8 cm - Moto kasane (thickness of the blade at the munemachi): 0,5 cm - Saki kasane (thickness of the blade at the yokote): 0,4 cm - Kissaki nagasa (length of the kissaki from the yokote to the tip): 2,7 cm - Boshi tsuki age (tip with a return to the blade, the whole drawing a triangle) - Hamon gonome midare (a thin blade pattern with an internal movement) - Ji hada ko itame hada (the grain of the blade, thin and tight, looking like a wood board) - Mune iori mune (the back of the blade made of two triangular sides) - Nakago funagata (shaped as boat hull) ubu, non suriage, the nakago juri of korijiri haru type (not symmetrical) with a single mekugi ana 2. Description of the mount (koshirae): A koshirae with a same nuri saya (a polished and lacquered ray skin), the kurikata is together with its shitodome and to one third of the saya there is a soritsuno made of carved horn. The habaki is of niju habaki type with neko gakki. The fuchi kashira with nanako shakudo adorned with a lobster also visible in the menuki. The tsuka is set with lacquered same and is braided with blue cords in jabara maki. The tsuba is of mokko gata type and is worked in taka zogan on two faces, one adorned with arakan and oni. L (total, the sword together with its koshirae): 99 cm Note: The term chiisi katana describes a ka- tana whose length is inferior to two shaku. € 6,000 - 8,000 372 .A MUMEI SAMURAI SWORD OF WAKIZASHI TYPE The blade dating to the early Shinto peri- od, i.e. 17th century, while the koshirae is dated to the Edo period and more precise- ly to the late 18th century to the earliest 19th century 1. Description of the blade: - Nagasa (length of the blade from the munemachi to the tip of the kissaki): 51 cm - Moto haba (width of the blade at the habachi): 3 cm - Saki haba (width of the blade at the yokote): 2 cm - Moto kasane (thickness of the blade at the munemachi): 0,5 cm - Saki kasane (thickness of the blade at the yokote): 0,3 cm - Kissaki nagasa (length of the kissaki from the yokote to the tip): 3 cm - Boshi yakitsume with hahakike (brushed aspect of the boshi) - Architecture of the blade shinogi zukuri - Mune iori mune (the back of the blade made of equal tails) - Hamon gonome reversed with tobiyaki - Ji hada (blade grain) mokume hada (looking like a wood board) - Kissaki chu gissaki nobi gokoro - Nakago funagata (shaped as boat hull) with nakakojiri of kiri type, suriagenak- ago three menuki ana 2. Description of the mount (koshirae): The koshirae is of soroimono type (all the pieces are en suite) with a ryu pat- tern and in the style of nishigaki, with descending waves. The fuchi kashira, menuki, kuchi gane, kogai and kozuka, kojiri and soritsuno are made of silver. The tsuba is made of silvered copper with a ryu pattern and with a hitsu and a kogai hitsu. It is signed in cursive script, i.e. shosho. The saya is lacquered togidashi hyomon. The tsuka is made up of precious wood / shitan. The menuki are of hanashi menuki type (with no braid).
