74 125 AN IMPORTANT PAIR OF FAMILLE VERTE ‘FLYCATCHER AND MAGPIES’ PORCELAIN SHALLOW DISHES China, Qing Dynasty, Kangxi period Adorned in the Famille Verte palette with a decor of magpies frolicking on a lotus pond, on the river banks many different flowers amidst which chrysanthemums, millet and lotus, a flycatcher perched on a branch hunting flying butterflies. The reverse of the wing painted with mountains and pavilions. Cobalt blue flower mark within a double circle to the below. D (each): 34,2 cm Provenance: Castel of Conon in Blésois, France. Notes: 1. A pair of magpies symbolizes marriage based on the ancient legend of the Oxherd and the Weaver girl which are constantly separated but for one day each year when they can meet each other thanks to a bridge of magpies crossing a celestial river. 2.
