68 Tuesday 24th April 116 A FENIAN BOND CERTIFICATE, Ten dollars, issued January 15th 1866 by John O’Mahony (Agent for the Irish Republic), to LukeWalsh, No. 1164/1387, with O’Mahony’s signature in plate, printed by Continental Bank Note Printing Company of New York, approx. 18 x 27.5cm These bonds were issued in America to fund the Fenian Rising of 1867 and were ‘redeemable six months after the acknowledgement of the Independence of the Irish Nation ’.They were redeemed almost eighty years later by the Irish Government.Any outstanding bonds were thereafter valued only as collectibles, which today rarely show up at auction. € 400 - 500
