Graduating from the prestigious Ecole Centrale de Paris, Bäumer trained to be an engineer, but al- ways had a passion for design, and furthermore, jewellery. Thus, he began his artistic journey in 1988 and was quick- ly spotted by Chanel, designing iconic pieces such as the Camélia, Matelassée, Coco rings and so many more. While working for Chanel, he began to exhibit his own work at 19 Place Vendome, next to the Ritz Hotel in Paris. Bäumer became known for his ready-to-wear high jewel- lery collections as well as his bespoke pieces such as the tiara designed for Princess Charlene of Monaco’s wedding. The jeweller described his creative process as an ‘endless journey’ that is constantly inspired by the surrounding world. His goal is to create timeless yet modern pieces that blend cutting-edge technology with traditional techniques such as 3D printing and traditional engraving. Colour also plays a vital role in his craftsmanship, viewing it as a pow- erful tool to evoke emotion and life within a piece of jewel- lery, especially with the interplay of colour and light inside faceted stones. The jeweller and engineer continued to design for Chanel until 2008, before going on to become the artistic director of Louis Vuitton from 2009 to 2014, creating the brand’s first line of jewellery “L’Ame du Voyage.” Bäumer has con- tinued to gain recognition in the industry from internation- al brands such as Boucheron and Van Cleed & Aprels. He believes that “Beauty is a promise of happiness” and that is what he has delivered time and time again.
