113 Italian Jewellers Micheletto boast a wealth of experience in the art of jewellery dating back five generations to the late 19th century. At the end of the nineteenth century, two Mil- anese families – the Locatellis and the Canevaris – established a goldsmith’s workshop which soon developed into a success- ful jewellery house. The name of Micheletto derives from the handing over of ownership as Locatelli’s daughter marries Emilio Micheletto, who proceeded to take over the family business. Throughout the 1920s and 30s, Micheletto craftsmen worked for important brands such as Van Cleef & Arpels and continued to f lourish during the 1940s despite the World War, making a name for the company in the jewellery sector. The 60s, 70s and 80s saw Micheletto expand to the United States, where they received recognition from private clients and Hollywood stars on the red carpet. Their foundation as goldsmiths has meant Micheletto created pieces which accentuated the mal- leable attributes of the metal, even as the firm expanded into the creation of fine jewellery. The craftsmanship involved in such work is clearly evident in Lot 172. 172 AN EMERALD AND DIAMOND NECKLACE, BY MICHELETTO Composed of a double curb-link chain, the frontispiece highlight- ed with emerald cabochons within a square-cut diamond frame, mounted in 18K gold, diamonds approximately 7.00cts total, Italian reg- istry mark for Micheletto, Milan, length 38cm € 12,000 - 18,000
