His in- terest in jewellery dates back to his teenage years when he made costume jewellery. In 1976 while travelling in Burma, dellaValle bought his first precious gemstone, which began his career as a gemstone dealer. He contin- ued to design jewellery, working for Fürst Jewellers inVienna and collaborating with Bulgari, before launching his own jewellery brand in 1987. DellaValle’s work is most characterised by its lyrical use of colour and playful interpretations of nature. He says of his work “my designs are cheerful, never dramatic.
