First published in 1693. € 200 - 300 35 D. A BEAUFORT (1774-1857) Map of the Diocese of Meath, Dedicated to the Lord Bishop and Clergy of the Diocese of Meath (within a decorated cartouche). Folded linen-backed with original hand-colouring to outline, 760 x 610mm Daniel Augustus Beaufort (1739-1821), educated at Trinity College, Dublin, succeeded his father as rector of Navan, and in 1790 was presented by his friend the Right Hon. John Foster to the vicarage of Collon, County Louth. He was a keen geographer, and is best remembered for this map and his ‘Map’ and ‘Memoir of Ireland’. Daniel was the father of Sir Francis Beaufort (1774-1857), the renowned hydrographer, who gave his name to the ‘Beaufort Scale’ of wind force. A detailed map of Meath with considerable detail of adjacent counties, includ- ing a miniature plan of Dublin City. A dedication is given.
