Collage of excellent cartoons, balladry and squibs lampooning the tithe system and the Church of Ireland clergy in general pro- duced by the editorial team that was responsible for the radical and highly successful newspaper ‘The Comet’, which was pub- lished in Dublin from 1831 to 1833. Samuel Lover was credited with the comic illustrations (later he denied this) and Thomas Browne, a Wesleyan farmer and miller from the Queen’s County whose ‘nom de plume’ was ‘Jonathan Buckthorn’ was editor and part author along with some young barristers, littérateurs, and members of Parliament.
