122 109 MIMA NIXON (1861-1939) Market Day, Étaples (1909) Watercolour 26.5 x 17.5cm (10½ x 6¾”) Signed and dated 1909 Exhibited: Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colour, inscribed with title and the artist’s London address on label verso A similar watercolour of a market day at Étaples by Nixon was sold in these rooms on September 28th, 2005, lot 115. € 800 - 1,200 A cousin of Dorothy Blackham, Mima Nixon was a highly accom- plished if neglected watercol- ourist, she showed some eighty works with the Watercolour Society of Ireland between 1893- 1932. She also exhibited at the Dublin Sketching Society from 1887 of which she was a member and the Belfast Art Society and the Royal Hibernian Academy. She had two one-person exhi- bitions at The Fine Art Society in London, the first comprising of 85 works. In London she also exhibited at The Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colour, The Society of Women Artists and The London Salon to name but a few. She died at Diamond Hill, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow on the 11th of June 1939.
