www.adams.ie Important Irish Art | 24 th March 2021 71 59 HECTOR MCDONNELL RUA (B.1947) Shoe Repairs Oil on canvas, 76 x 61cm (30 x 24’’) Signed and dated 2002 Provenance: With Solomon Gallery, Dublin, label verso. This work is one of a series of New York street scenes painted by the artist following the attacks on the Twin Towers in 2001. The scene depicts a shoe repair shop located a short distance from Ground Zero, captured a few weeks after the attack. In the image you can see the filthy residue of thick dust that still covers the sidewalk outside the shop. The staff exhibit signs of unease, standing well back from the front window, one of them is turning in his chair, peering anxiously out the front. They’ve placed an American flag near the window, as a totem perhaps to protect them and their shop from further attack. € 4,000 - 6,000 CLICK HERE FOR MORE PHOTOGRAPHS AND BIDDING
