St. Colmcille (Colum- ba) founded an abbey on the island and is credited with bringing Christianity to Scotland. In 563, he travelled with twelve companions, in a wicker currach covered with leather, from Ire- land, landing on the Kintyre Peninsula before travelling on to Iona. € 700 - 1,000
