In 2014, he became the first Irish artist to design a Carré scarf for luxury fashion house Hermès. His long relation- ship with Japan has been a major influence on his work, most notably with his use of handmade kozo washi paper. Richard has exhibited extensively throughout Europe and Asia since the 1980’s, and in 2016, had a seminal ex- hibition in Castletown House to celebrate his 70th birthday. Richard Gorman is one of Ireland’s leading abstract painters today, and is represented in many collections both private and public including The Ulster Museum, OPW, Deutsche Bank and the New York Public Library.
